Daily, we happen across new music, poems, magazine articles, etc. that move something within us. I created this blog as a means of storing mine in a convenient little place.
Below is a creative writing assignment that gives an accurate picture of my personality I think.
I believe in the iron grip of a good friend’s hug; in ordering Shirley Temples with no ice and no shame, no matter your age. I believe in closing my eyes and pretending Buddy’s still alive when I am petting a dog that is not my own. I believe, against my better judgment, in savoring the distinct taste of a high quality beer and the unmistakable sweet smell of an occasional black and mild, but I will not make it a habit. I am convinced that when all else fails, a southern accent, charming smile, and the best of intentions will get you farther than it should. I believe in wearing long chandelier earrings during the day, just because I can pull it off and in daring storms to do their worst then trembling when the lightning strikes too near. I believe that music will become what a person allows it to be, mere background noise or a significant driving force in one’s life. I believe there’s something to that restless feeling I get when I have enough cash in hand to fly away from here. It reminds me that it’s my choice to stay.
